What You Need to Know About the Walmart Car Seat Buy Back Program
Walmart recently launched its Walmart car seat buyback program. Here’s why you should do it, how you should do it, and everything else you need to know.
Walmart is a multinational retail corporation with stores in 27 countries. The corporation has a revenue of $514 billion making it the world’s largest company by revenue. In 2019, Walmart launched a car seat trade-in program in collaboration with TerraCycle.
This program asks people to bring in their children’s car seats and trade them in for a new one. Children’s car seats expire, and if you have a child, this can be dangerous. If your child’s car seat has expired or is way too small, Walmart is offering to accept your car seat and in return, they give you a $30 Walmart gift card.
Why should you trade-in your car seat?
There are several reasons why this is a great idea, let’s run through some of them.
1. It’s a great deal
Walmart is extremely popular, and there’s a high chance you go there regularly or semi-regularly. Trading in an expired car seat or a seat you don’t use anymore isn’t costing you that much. With exceptions for those who want to use the seat in the near future (as long as it’s not expired) and those who have extended family members who occasionally use the seat. If neither scenario applies to you, you should definitely try out the program.
2. It’s great for the environment
When you throw out car seats, car parts, tires, and such materials, they rarely get recycled. Instead, they end up in landfills that continue to pollute the environment. Car seats are not made from biodegradable materials so it’s not going to become compost. It’s going to last a very very long time. TerraCycle is a recycling company that recycles items deemed hard to recycle.
Here are the steps:
- You select an expired car seat or a car seat no longer in use.
- Find a Walmart Supercenter participating in the trade-in event.
- Take the car seat to the customer service counter for the trade-in
- Next, you’ll receive a $30 Walmart gift card eligible online and in stores.
Here are the Terms and Conditions:
- Only two trade-ins are allowed per household.
- Walmart does not accept booster seats.
- All brands of children’s car seats are accepted.
While awaiting the news on this year’s events, it’s important to know how last year’s events went. The Walmart car seat buyback occurred in September last year which is National Baby Safety Month. It was organized to encourage child safety. By accepting expired car seats, they encourage parents to replace the seats and choose safer options.
The trade-ins were extremely successful. They were so successful that Walmart closed the program after a week. This year’s event will likely occur in September or October; however, there will be safety precautions set in place due to the global pandemic.
